The PREMIER MIDWEST ROPE CLIMBING COMPETITION RETURNS

The Altay Classic is held annually at Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

The competition returns in 2023 in its pre-pandemic format! Sign-up is now open!

Individuals compete to complete as many routes as possible during a single day event window in the park. Individuals may climb with anyone they choose. Points are awarded per send, no repeating a sent route. Leaders will receive a special award.

Rules:

  • Competitors start from the registration table at the CCC parking lot at 9 am. Check-in begins at 8:30 am. Please arrive early to check in and get your scorecard.

  • Climbers may register until the competition begins on June 24.

  • No soloing! Place gear early and often.

  • You must carry everything you use. No stashing food/water, gear, etc.

  • In the event of a fall or take on lead, teams may leave any gear placed, lower the leader to the ground, and repeat the climb without untying or having to pull the rope (ie: the leader can top-rope on pre-placed gear up to the previous high point and continue leading from there).

  • In the event of a fall or take on top-rope, the climber must be lowered to the ground before attempting the route again.

  • Any route is allowed throughout the park. Routes and ratings are based on the higher rating between Sven Olof Swartling/Pete Mayer’s Climber’s Guide To Devils Lake (third edition) and Jay Knower’s Devils Lake: A Climbing Guide.

  • Late scorecards will not be accepted after 5:15 pm.

Bring your scorecard to group campsite G8 between 5 and 5:15 pm for a chance to win. Results will be announced around 6 pm.

If cost is a barrier to participating, please email us at info@wiclimbers.com.
