JEDI: Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion

WCA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

The Wisconsin Climbers Association is committed to ensuring that all people feel safe, welcome and respected in the Wisconsin climbing community. We recognize that implicit bias is present in the climbing community and are dedicated to doing our part to dismantle it. As an organization, we remain committed to creating an inclusive climate for all climbers in Wisconsin regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, age, socioeconomic status, and outdoor experience. We continue to work towards creating inclusive community events and gatherings where we hope all Wisconsin climbers can participate, connect and respectfully learn from each other.

WCA Commitment Goals

  • All people should feel safe, welcome and respected in the Wisconsin climbing community.

  • We recognize that a space being open for all does not necessarily mean those spaces are safe or inclusive to all who wish to use them. It is our role as community advocates to listen to the Wisconsin climbing community - regardless of whether or not they are WCA members - and to break down barriers that prevent all people from having this experience.

  • We commit to promoting diversity in our membership and board.

  • We know we will make mistakes along the way and will be open to hearing feedback from climbers and members about how we can better support our diverse community.

We fully align with and support the efforts being done nationally through the Access Fund and encourage further reading on their JEDI journey.

WCA Inclusivity Grant

The Wisconsin Climbers Association is excited to offer a grant opportunity. The Inclusivity Grant was developed to back our JEDI efforts as we aim to help make a more inclusive space for climbers. More information on the grant.

Community Climbing Resources

Below are some groups doing fantastic work in the climbing and outdoors community to advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We encourage you to support any of the organizations leading the JEDI work in our community as you are able.
